Pet measurement tracking

Adding Weight Measurements

Recording weight is smooth and straightforward. Your crittr's weight history builds automatically as you log measurements.

  1. Hit the New Log button in your crittr's details page
  2. Choose "Measurement" from the log type options
  3. Select "Weight" and enter the value in grams
  4. Add any notes about feeding, behavior, or health observations
  5. Save your entry - that's it, you're tracking growth

Weight measurements are free for all users and store data in grams for consistency. The app displays your preferred units but keeps everything standardized behind the scenes.

Recording Length Measurements

Length tracking works the same flow as weight, perfect for monitoring growth in reptiles and other pets where size matters.

  1. Open the New Log modal for your crittr
  2. Pick "Measurement" as your log type
  3. Choose "Length" and record in millimeters
  4. Note measuring technique - snout to vent, total length, etc.
  5. Log any measuring challenges like pet cooperation level

Pro measuring tips: Use a flexible tape measure for active pets, measure during calm periods, and note your measuring method for consistency across time.

Measuring tools and techniques

Understanding Measurement Units

CrittrHavens keeps units clean and consistent. Everything stores in metric behind the scenes, but displays match your style.

Storage units:

  • Weight: grams (g)
  • Length: millimeters (mm)

Display units:

  • Weight shows as "g" in charts and tables
  • Length appears as "mm" throughout the app
  • Unit conversion happens automatically for consistency

Your measurements stay accurate no matter how you prefer to view them. The system handles the math so you can focus on your pet's health trends.

Viewing Growth Charts

Charts bring your data to life with interactive visualizations. Time range controls let you zoom into specific periods or view the full history.

  1. Visit your crittr's details page to see measurement charts
  2. Choose your time range - 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, all time, or custom
  3. Interactive charts respond to touches and clicks for detailed values
  4. Multiple measurement types get their own chart when you have 2+ data points

Time ranges available:

  • Last 3 months
  • Last 6 months
  • Last year
  • Last 2 years
  • All time
  • Custom date range

Charts only appear when you have at least 2 measurements of the same type. This keeps your interface clean and meaningful.

Growth chart visualization

Pattern recognition becomes natural when you see your data visually. Charts reveal growth spurts, plateaus, and health changes over time.

What to watch for:

  • Steady upward weight trends in growing pets
  • Consistent length increases during growth phases
  • Sudden changes that might indicate health issues
  • Seasonal patterns in weight fluctuations
  • Recovery patterns after illness or stress

Growth indicators:

  • Smooth curves indicate healthy, consistent growth
  • Sharp increases might show growth spurts
  • Plateaus are normal for mature pets
  • Concerning drops warrant veterinary attention

Use chart time ranges to focus on specific periods - zoom into recent months for current health or view all-time data for long-term patterns.

Setting Measurement Reminders

Consistency makes tracking powerful. Task reminders help you maintain regular measurement schedules without thinking about it.

  1. Navigate to Tasks from your main menu
  2. Create a new task with measurement details
  3. Set your schedule - weekly, monthly, or custom frequency
  4. Assign to your crittr for organized tracking
  5. Task notifications remind you when measurements are due

Recommended schedules:

  • Young, growing pets: Weekly measurements
  • Adult pets: Monthly weight checks
  • Health monitoring: Custom frequency based on vet recommendations
  • Breeding animals: More frequent during reproductive cycles

Regular measurement tasks become routine, building comprehensive health records over time.
